I honestly feel like most fans of the original who don’t like HW2 aren’t giving it a fair chance because as a former skeptic myself I’ve come to see it as a truly faithful sequel that improves over the original in almost every way. The music is amazing and nostalgic of the original. The speed of the game also makes it easier to hop into another match afterwards. They increased the pace of matches, which makes it easy to jump into the action and it’s not as tedious at the start. It’s incredibly well-balanced and continues to receive balance updates to this day (please don’t stop 343!). The more I play this game, the more I appreciate how much love (seriously!) the devs put into this game and how faithful it is to the original. They even gave Cutter a likable personality and a badass voice. Graphics and effects are awesome and modern, not to mention the awesome campaign cutscenes and voice talent that actually makes each leader feel alive.

HW2 has more importance in army diversity (no more going 100% grizzlies, hawks, ODST), an increase in unit variety where almost every unit has their own viability and usefulness, and reduction of unit upgrade paths (this might seem like a downgrade but it just streamlines army-building in a way that isn’t a hassle). It’s made improvements in almost every aspect where the original was lacking. HW2 is a brilliant and extremely faithful sequel to the original. After being unable to find multiplayer games in HW1 due to its low population, I reluctantly gave Halo Wars 2 a chance and am very glad I did. I was too stubborn to switch because I was so used to the original. I was so into it that I got Halo Wars Definitive Edition on PC before getting into Halo Wars 2 even though it was available. I also spent countless hours playing Halo Wars 1 back in the day.
